My name is Leonard Heath Ray, Owner & CEO of Freedom Medical Equipment. After proudly serving 24 years as a Navy corpsman—most of that time dedicated to Navy medicine and leading supply units for both the Navy and Marine Corps—I recently retired and returned home.
Coming Home to East Texas
Born and raised in East Texas, I’ve always stayed connected to my roots, no matter where my military service took me around the world. Throughout my career, keeping in touch with family and friends back home was a priority. It’s always been my plan to settle in Longview after retirement, and I’m grateful to finally be back where I belong.

As a veteran myself, I understand the unique challenges faced by those who have served. That’s why I’m dedicated to supporting fellow veterans and their families, helping them maintain independence and quality of life through accessible, reliable medical equipment and home adaptations. It’s an honor to give back to the community that has given so much.
Fred Grindle is Freedom Medical’s Chief Financial Officer, responsible for all financials, with 25 years of business planning and financial budgeting experience. In addition, Fred, with 16 years of Quality Control experience, will lead Freedom’s management team in controlling its operational procedures building continuity between suppliers and shareholders, ultimately delivering satisfaction to all of Freedom’s customer.
Fred holds degrees, Bachelor of Science, The University of Texas at Tyler and Associate of Applied Science, Tyler Junior College.
